Mearns Spring bnm6999jhp Strathfinella Hill Wood Devilly Burn Scottish summer gorse larch Cairn road Fettercairn Mearns Aberdeenshire by Goskiehill Farm on the B974 Cairn O’Mount road between the Laurencekirk turn and the Clatterin Brig restaurant on the B974 Fettercairn to Cairn O’Mount road. Opposite the restaurant is the road to Auchenblae passing St Palladius Church and Drumtochty Castle in Glen Drumtochty which has interesting Forest Enterprise walks through mixed mature woodland and after leaving the forest the road enters Strath Finella passing a delightful small loch near Glensaugh, used for fishing and often visited by ducks and swans. Strathfinella Hills are at the foothill of the Grampians overlooking the wide flat fertile plain of The Mearns and this roadside view across to Hill Wood and over the site of Green Castle, the guardian of the entrance to the Cairn O’Mount which was later replaced by Kincardine Castle located further down on the Mearns.
