Amadah Temple Crowds EG051579JHP Amada Temple Egypt Interior Photo Crowds Cramped Visitors Conservation on the shores of Lake Nasser weighing 900tons was rescued from the flooding of the River Nile to create Lake Nasser by French engineers who towed it in one piece 2.5km from Kurusku. The sandstone temple to Amun-Re and Re-Harakhte was built by Thutmosis 111, Amenhotep 11 and Tuthmosis 1V. One of several small antiquities visited during a Lake Nasser cruise it has some coloured wall reliefs still intact and is then fallowed after a short walk to the Rock Cut Temple of al-Derr. Egypt > River Nile Cruise & Sites (open collection)

Photographs in this gallery show daily life along the River Nile mainly from the cruises I have undertaken over the past 10 years or so. Sites that border the Nile are included although the major temples visted have their own dedicated sites such as Edfu and Kom Ombo. One of the enjoyments of the Nile cruise is the tranquility of watching 'life go by' usually characterised by the friendliness of those you pass whether boatmen or farm workers as well as seeing wild birds close at hand. The other aspect is the service on the cruiseboats from friendly crews and the chance to relax after hectic and often crowded temple visits.

It is no longer used as a bridge but is a very attractive visitor feature and a peaceful two mile walk from Duff House in Banff, an beautiful Georgian baroque mansion open for viewing its restored interior and along with its children’s play area, golf course and extensive woodland walks. The rock stacks on its beach are known locally as the Three Kings.
