Deeside-Sunset-wsc2544jhp Deeside Aberdeenshire Scottish summer sunset 2022 red Aberdeenshire bands portrait is some 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. The most colourful period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This normal view was taken on the 17th June, 2022 at 21.32 hrs UT. They happen only a few times a year and need a clear cloudless night best to see them although in this photo the normal clouds are also present. This is taken looking East of North from Crooktree with Torphins on lower right as the NLC display expanded and more pronounced waves forming and 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland, best show so far in 2021 on the 27th June. Taken at 23.56 UT using a D700 Nikon DSLR with a Tokina SD, 70mm, f8, ISO 640 for 4 sec. It was a perfect night with little wind and although this was the last of my watching the display continued for some time more. Deeside-Sunset-qax9498jhp Deeside Scotland summer sunset clouds colours shapes hilline Aberdeenshire Kincardine O’Neil is some 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. The most colourful period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This one was taken on the 16th June, 2021 around 20.57hrs UT. Deeside-Partial-Eclipse-qax9462jhp Partial Solar Annular Eclipse Sun Moon Crescent June cloudy Aberdeenshire Scotland Deeside on the 10th June, 2021 over Aberdeenshire in North East Scotland near Kincardine O’Neil on Royal Deeside. There was a major cloud problem but luckily not all at the crucial moment. This is one of the first photos taken and shows the eclipse underway with the moon moving from the right and was taken at 10.39hrs UT. The maximum effect was about as is seen, with the next substantial partial eclipse being in 2026 and a total one in 2090. The peak of the display was around 10am UT but was obscured by cloud and this view was towards the end of the display when cloud thinned and the ‘bite’ had moved towards the left side of the sun.
