Mearns Aberdeenshire Laurencekirk Grampians fertile plain Scotland spring rape seed landscape looking westwards towards the Grampians, a line of hills dividing the flat fertile plains of The Mearns from the hilly Glens of Deeside. This view is taken from the road approaching Laurencekirk near Easthills looking across to Strathfinella Hill. The Howe of Mearns is a central part low lying flat fertile farmland in the centre of an area stretching from the south of Stonehaven to the Tay Estuary. Once you head North West over the various Angus Glens or over the Cairn O’Mount from Fettercairn you go into hill farming, moorland or forested estates onto Deeside and eventually reach the Highlands.
