Karanis Temple Burial 6448EG07JHP Karanis Kom Aushim Southern Egyptian Temple Coffin Crypt Interior Photo was a city on the north eastern edge of the area known as Fayoum and dates from Ptolemaic times through to 500AD. Two Roman dated temples survive in reasonable state and the southern one in which this photo shows a crypt in which to hold a coffin is dedicated to the crocodile Gods of Pnepheros and Petesuchos. Many finds have been made especially of life in a residential area with houses scattered throughout the site and there is also a fine Roman bathhouse. A small museum now closed has ben replaced with an open air area with a selection of artefacts adjacent to the main walk to the temples. Karnak Khonsu Opet Temple EG075025jhp Karnak Temple Luxor Khonsu Opet Apet Ptolemaic Amun Osiris cult located to the SW corner of this huge sprawling site on the East Bank of the River Nile near the modern City of Luxor and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. The nicely decorated Temple of Opet or Apet, a Goddess hippopotamus deity who assisted women in childbearing and is located on the SE corner of the main Khonsu was mainly a Ptolemaic Temple and in practice dedicated to Amun who had by this time assumed much of the characteristics of Osiris. Like Khonsu itself is is well preserved, usually not very busy and a delightful escape from the crowded areas around the main Karnak site.
