 Loch Kinord Scottish Celtic Cross Cross-slab Royal Deeside Aberdeenshire lying beneath Hill of Morven and located to the north of North Deeside Road mid way the River Dee valley between Aboyne and Ballater. Nearby the loch is the Burn O'Vat an impressive gorge with vistors centre and public toilets while on the loch is a Crannog, prehistoric man made island and Osprey can sometimes be seen fishing in the tranquil waters of this SSSI. The cross slab dates from around 9th Century AD and stands near to its original location on the north shore overlooking the loch.

The range of clouds includes cirrus, storm clouds, white puffy fair weather clouds, monster cloud formations, haar, sun beams, lenticular, mama, a wide range of different meteorological structures and types.

 Cloud interesting shape white blue sky Deeside Dinnet Scotland broom summer weather and although not perhaps calendar material are none the less great photography subjects. Their shapes and size make them a subject I enjoy photographing and are a truer reflection perhaps of the great mix of weather and light we have in the North East of Scotland. These clouds were taken at the Dinnet Glider strip layby were a morning but they changed very quickly for when I first spotted them they were far more like a large question mark but when I got to the layby, the first safe pull off place in about 5 mins they had moved and compacted quite significantly. Part of the old adage, always have your camera handy, as capturing those unusual natural events can be a matter of minutes.

 Loch Kinord Deeside Scotland viewpoint crannog island prehistoric manmade Aberdeenshire lying beneath Hill of Morven and located to the north of North Deeside Road mid way the River Dee valley between Aboyne and Ballater. Nearby the loch is the Burn O'Vat an impressive gorge with visitors centre and public toilets with a viewpoint of the Loch from which this photo was taken. There are two islands, one had a Castle constructed on it while the other is a Crannog, a prehistoric man made island. Osprey can sometimes be seen fishing in the tranquil waters of this SSSI. This photograph was taken in 2004 using my first digital SLR, a Fuji S2 Pro with telephoto lens.

Aboyne is a popular tourist stopover with shops, restaurants, hotels and two golf courses is busy throughout the summer months with long established Highland Games and a recent and very successful Arts Festival based around a thriving Community Centre and Theatre. Crossing the River takes you onto the South Deeside Road, either east to Potarch turn or on through Ballogie, over Corsedardar to Finzean and Feughside. Westwards takes you via the Bridge of Ess and passed the Glen Tanar entrance to Dinnet and onto Ballater.
