Dunnottar Castle Whigs Vault 61479JHP Dunnottar Castle Whigs Vault dungeon Scottish Aberdeenshire Scotland in ruin standing proud on a spectacular headland jutting out into the North Sea south of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. This fortress occupies a site going back into Pictish or earlier times and has had an association with most aspects of Scottish history through its most turbulent times, most notable was the siege during Cromwell’s attempts to conquer Scotland and again in 1685 during the imprisonment of the Covenanters in the infamous Whigs Vault; this photo is inside the Whigs Vault or prison.
