Ramasseum Temple Balloon flight view West bank houses fields tombs hills Egypt the famous temple of Ramesses is located just beneath the balloon and is situated on the West Bank location of the Nile at Luxor The Ramses 11 mortuary temple with its huge engaged Osiris statues of the pharaoh glowing in the late afternoon sunlight and on the right is the fallen seated granite statue of Ramses and a head that supposedly inspired Shelley's poem of Ozymandias with the first pylon in the distance. In this general area are several Tombs of the Nobles which are usually privately organised visits but very well worth the time if you have afew days to spare in Luxor. The balloon flight illustrated here was in 1994 and there were only two although in later years these increased greatly in numbers. This trip took off from the front of Hatshepsut just after dawn, a cold and interesting crossing of the Nile in the dark and long before the modern road bridge and eventually landed in the desert where the Hilton Hotel put on a beautiful breakfast buffet.
