Karnak Temple SS98464jhp
Karnak Temple Egypt second pylon Taharqa Kiosk dawn silhouette sphinx sunrise greets the visitor after entering through the first Pylon when visiting this famous site located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and it the largest religious complex on the Nile. This is a typical scene in the first court after entering through the main entrance of the first pylon with the remains of the pillared kiosk of Taharqa in a single papyrus column and the large block of alabaster, possible a barque station. Beyond is the second pylon with its decorated front and the beginning of the famous hypostyle hall leading to the distant obelisks and inner sanctuary. This particular photograph was taken in 1998 as part of a Stars and Signs cruise and we were able to access the temple at sunrise before it opened to the main package tour traffic. This allowed photos to be taken in beautiful golden early morning light which was particularly useful in highlighting some of the rich wall reliefs.
