Cabrach Ruined Croft WTN1930JHP
Ruined Derelict Stone Croft Highlands Cottage Scotland Spring Daffodils Photo by the roadside between the Cabrach and Dufftown on the western border of Aberdeenshire and Moray in the Highlands of Scotland. Fewer ruins are seen today as increased prosperity has enabled many to be restored and modernised for use as holiday cottages or second homes. Known as ‘butt & ben’ houses they feel increasingly derelict as the earliest Highland Clearances and more modern farming practices denuded the countryside of farm labour and the population moved nearer to large towns and cities seeking employment.

Cathedral Lossie Daffodils WTN2004JHP
Elgin Cathedral River Lossie Spring Daffodils Morayshire Scotland Higlands Photo was founded in 1224 although a substantial ruin now cared for by Historic Scotland remains one of the most beautiful medieval buildings in Scotland aand viewed here from the spring flora on the banks of the River Lossie. The transepts with their buttressed west towers and parts of the tall choir and nave date from the fire of 1270 but subsequent destruction especially by the Wolf of Badenoch in 1390 and later further destruction and neglect after the Reformation means we will never see this building in its true majesty.
