Aboyne Loch summer walk sunshine dappled peaceful Deeside Aberdeenshire Scotland trees at the eastern approach is this very recognisable feature on arriving at this town mid way up the River Dee valley between Aberdeen and Braemar in the west. Following part of the old Deeside Railway, now Deeside Way, is this path alongside the Loch on a June sunny day. Aboyne is a popular tourist stopover with shops, restaurants, hotels and two golf courses is busy throughout the summer months with long established Highland Games and a recent and very successful Arts Festival based around a thriving Community Centre and Theatre. Crossing the River takes you onto the South Deeside Road, either east to Potarch turn or on through Ballogie, over Corsedardar to Finzean and Feughside. Westwards takes you via the Bridge of Ess and passed the Glen Tanar entrance to Dinnet and onto Ballater.

Old Brig O’Dee stone bridge heather river Dee Invercauld Scottish summer dramatic light and is one of the many military bridges built after the Forty Five Rebellion and that carried troops across the Highlands. This was built by Major Caulfield 1752 although often called a General Wade bridge, the person who started the process many years earlier. The bridge is located just east of Braemar and this view is from eastern side of the bridge, looking upstream with the golden colours of autumn larch and silver birch.

Deeside Lumphanan summer Scottish trees high view fields rural above village Aberdeenshire taken from the single track back road past Glenmillan and Woodhill houses which joins the B9119 Tarland to Aberdeen road on the northern edge of the village on a pleasant late summer September afternoon showing the rich greens of trees and grass. The village has historical connections with a cairn to the death of Macbeth in the woods nearby in 1057 as well as a 12th Century Peel signifying its strategic importance associated with ancient drove roads and various passes from the flat lands of Deeside northwards into Strathdon and the lands of Northern Aberdeenshire.

River Dee Dinnet water spring canoes sailing paddling Deeside Scotland riverbank rocks summer a popular salmon fishing stretch and offering other activities many parts of the river and this part is well known on this part of the South Deeside Road between Aboyne and Dinnet just after passing the Bridge of Ess and entrance to Glen Tanar. This view looking eastwards and downstream has the Deeside Gliding Club located on the flat plain on the opposite bank of the river.

Tullich junction harvest Monaltrie autumn Ballater Lochnagar Deeside Scottish Aberdeenshire some 40 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland taken at the junction of the Pass of Ballater shortcut to continue on the main Braemar road bypassing Ballater itself.. Lying to the north of the River Dee it is a popular tourist centre for visitors travelling the length of this beautiful valley going southwards to Perth, visiting Balmoral Castle or Crathie Kirk or as a stopover before venturing northwards over the Lecht to Inverness. This was taken at ISO 1250 as against my usual 200 so assume I had mistakenly left this from a previous evening’s photography where I needed the higher sensitivity.
