Here viewed from Cooper Park a large public area in the centre of Elgin. Forres Springtime wtn2138jhp Forres Moray Scottish Spring Mosset Burn Crimea obelisk Thomson daffodils commemorating the work of a Scottish Doctor who died at the Battle of Alma in 1854. The obelisk is made of Peterhead Granite and stands 50 foot high and is surrounded in the springtime with pink and white cherry blossom. In the summer the town, this ancient Royal Burgh with a charter dating back to 1496 and perhaps even earlier is adorned with a famous park of hedge sculptures and extensive floral displays in its sunken garden making this a popular place for visitors. The town dating to ancient times lies to the east of the River Findhorn and the Burn of Mosset also offers an additional water feature. It alos has the Nelson Tower the first monument in Britain celebrating Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. To the east of the town is the stone cross-slab obelisk called the Sueno Stone, recording the victory of the Picts over the Danes in 1014AD. MacBeath s Hill Brodie UP280339jhp Scotland Morayshire Brodie Macbeth Hill Witches spring yellow gorse sunny green grass is situated near Brodie Castle on a small back road to the north of the A96 at Hardmuir. Tradition claims is was the site claimed by Shakespeare in his play Macbeth where the King of the same name met the three Witches. It is identified on Ordnance Survey maps as Macbeth’s Hillock. Nearby Brodie Castle which lies between Forres and Nairn in Morayshire Scottish Highlands is home of the Brodie family, the castle perhaps dates back as far as 1160 and came under attack from Montrose’s army but survived. Many additions were made subsequently and the collections of various items are extensive and of high quality. This became a National Trust for Scotland property in 1980 and is situated about 4.5 miles west of Forres and the grounds are open to the public all the year round. Auldearn Doocot Spring UP280346jhp Scotland Nairnshire Moray Auldearn Doocot Dovecot pigeon loft spring yellow daffodils is situated in the village of Auldearn by the A96 near Nairn. The 17th Century Doocot or pigeon loft was bequeathed to the NTS by the owner Boath and is located on a motte, the site of a 12th century Royal Castle called Eren, one of the strongholds for the Scottish Kings of Moray. It was later destroyed but the site was the credited as where the Royal Standard was raised by the Marquis of Montrose in May 1645 when his army defeated the Covenant forces at the Battle of Auldearn.
