Foundations were laid in 1986 and opened in 1997 and organised through UNESCO. Archaic Ostraca EG11834JHP Egyptian Museum Exhibit archaic ostraca painted bull baboon prehistory dating back earliest times in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 1996 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. Ptolemaic Temple Gods EG051850JHP Deir al-Madinah Workers Temple Interior Relief Osiris Seated Atef Crown Baboon is located on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor lies to the west of Qurnet Murai hill and is the location of a workman's village with the remains of houses, streets and to the north a Ptolemaic Temple and other chapels. The temple is inside a mudbrick enclosure wall with good example of pan bedding and its large walls are obvious when looking over the village from the entrance. The small Temple to Hathor has some beautiful decorations, is a peaceful and spiritual place as usually free of crowds, is pleasingly compact compared to the overwhelming temples nearby and has managed to survive almost intact from Ptolemaic times. Some of the interior photos are border line for quality as the light was poor and tripods, and of course, flash are not allowed. Rekhmire Tomb Painting EG075706JHP Ancient Egypt Nobles Rekhmire Tomb Painting Tusks Ivory Baboon Exotic Expedition, one of many beautiful tomb decorations only lit by reflected sunlight amongst the Tombs of the Nobles on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor. Rekhmire Tomb-Chapel [Tomb 100] was a Vizier during the reigns of Tuthmosis 11 and Amenhotep 11, part of a family with long service as administrators at Thebes. This highly decorated cruciform tomb is full images giving great understanding of Egyptian foreign policy, taxation and the justice system. The area around the Tombs has now been greatly improved with removal of many of the old modern houses and entry to these fascinating burial sites made more accessible. Near to the cemetery is the northern boundary stela of Akhenaten which can be visited after a short low grade climb up steps where it is protected from the elements behind a Perspex screen. Has Ramesside Temple of Amun with other temples from reigns of Osorkon, Sheshonq and Ptolemy but of special interest are the Royal Tombs where that of Psusennes in particular was intact and gave up one of the richest burial good collections, apart from Tutankhamun, with its famous silver coffin, now in the Cairo Museum. A visit to Tanis is usually by private means but can be incorporated with a day trip through the Delta visiting Heliopolis and Tell Basta but does involve considerable motoring.
