Aswan Nubian Museum Necklace EG052983JHP Aswan Egyptian Nubian Museum Sudanese necklace of gold and semi-precious stones, another stunning exhibit in this modern building whose foundations were laid in 1986, opened in 1997 and organised through UNESCO. Very low artificial light makes general photography difficult as well as affecting accurate colour balance. This now appears to be the only museum in Egypt where photography is still allowed although it is not easy as the ambient lighting is extremely subdued for conservation reasons. Tut Ceremonial Seat EG11708JHP Egyptian Museum Exhibit folding stool backrest ceremonial chair Tomb Tutankhamun now in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 1996 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. Karnak Carved Wall EG074950jhp Karnak Temple Egyptian Sanctuary Wall Tuthmose Maat Palace Carving obelisk near the most sacred part of this huge sprawling site located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. This photo is situated near the sixth pylon on the outer wall of the inner sanctum around various chapels and shrines attributed to Amenhotep, Hatshepsut and Thutmose 111 leading to the central court area but this outer wall has important offering scnes and texts relating to Tuthmose's military campaigns into Syria and Palestine. Captured on this wall is Tuthmose offering gists to Amun such as two obelisks which had their pyramidions coverd in electrum but were eventually removed. This wall is described as the Palace of Ma'at on the UCLA Karnak website but not mentioned as such in either the Blue Book, Murnane or the touregypt sites. Just visible is the top of the obleisk of Hatshepsut. Karnak Carved Wall EG074997jhp Egyptian Court Wall Reliefs Karnak Gifts Ramses priest officials Amun on the walls of the Court between the seventh and eighth pylons where the high priest Amun Amenhotep is acknowledging the receipt of precious gifts including gold and silver from Ramesses 1X. The priest has two officials touching his linen robe possibly indicating how important he is. This photo shows this scene which complete as repeated in mirror fashion along the wall. This tableaux is carved on the eastern wall that connects the two pylons. This elaborately decorated funerary necklace dating possibly from the 3rd Dynasty and found north of the Unas Causeway is on the site of the Step Pyramid built for King Djoser around 2500BC under the architectural control of Imhotep who later was deified.
