Alexandria Eastern Harbour eg9613923jhp Egypt Alexandria floral park Eastern Harbour entrance El Selselah seafront modern city on the Mediterranean coast is no longer reminiscent of the ancient city from Pharaonic times and little of that ancient time remains. This photo is of modern seafront municpal agrdens near the Sea Bride Sculpture taken from the roadside as my taxi drove around the City on a day trip. Taken in 1996 it preceded the modern Library of Bibliotheca Alexandrina by 8 years, the original ancient library no longer exists. A few isolated ancient sites can be visited with some Greco-Roman ruins and archaeology. The City has a distinctly European rather than Egyptian feel to it; it is sometimes offered as a day trip on a Cairo package but is seldom part of the main Nile packages. I hired my own taxi and the driver was sufficiently knowledgeable to take me to the main ‘ancient’ sites I could manage in a few hours. Banff Eastern Aspect VR0391JHP Banff Royal Burgh is located at the estuary of the River Deveron crossed by a beautiful seven arched bridge and is town with a history dating back to the 12th century and was granted a charter by Robert the Bruce in the 14th Century. Once a thriving herring fishing port it is now a quiet town catering more to tourism with an excellent golf course at Duff House and has several sandy beaches. It is reckoned to be on of the driest and sunniest locations is Scotland. This view is taken from the road approaching Fettercairn from the main dual carriageway A94 where several fields are covered in commercially grown daffodils especially targeting the Easter celebrations in England. The Howe of Mearns is a central part low lying flat fertile farmland in the centre of an area stretching from the south of Stonehaven to the Tay Estuary. Once you head North West over the various Angus Glens or over the Cairn O’Mount from Fettercairn you go into hill farming, moorland or forested estates onto Deeside and eventually reach the Highlands. Note the Exif date is incorrect –indicates January, should be April. Buckie Harbour vr0572jhp Buckie Morayshire summer Moray Scotland North East coast harbour RNLI lifeboat anchored is one of the largest Morayshire towns facing Moray Firth on the northern coast of North East Scotland with small operational fishing harbour, fish market, boat building and featured on the Fishing heritage Trail. Made up of several distinct communities it extends some 3 miles along the coast but is never more than 1 mile inland and as it never actually touches the busy A98 main coast road it remains a quieter than normal town. An earlier small harbour at Buckpool, dating from 1857, but rapidly became outdated and now on longer exists but the more modern Cluny harbour dating from 1880 still operates and is one of the finest on the North East Coast. Land Army Memo bnm9965jhp Woman’s Land Army Memorial Clochan village Buckie snow sea winter Moray Firth Fochabers Crown Estate is situated just to the east of the village of Clochan, near Buckie, off the B9016 road from near Keith to Buckie on the North east Coast of Morayshire. The Memorial was the first and is still the only one dedicated to the Women’s Land Army which was formed in 1917 and continued on with even greater importance during WW2. This interesting and eye catching sculpture is the work of the Artist Peter Naylor and unveiled in 2012 by HRH Prince of Wales. This was the first snowfall on November 2017 and possibly showing some signs of weathering with its russet rust colour. From the site on the Fochabers Crown Estate it is possible to see the sea and across the Moray Firth to the distance mountains and hills of Easter Ross, Cromarty and the Black Isle. Other material included was gathered for other AA Publishing Guides including Shetland, Pitlochry and Tayside. New photographs are now included from 2012 book commission travels in Angus, Perth, Kinross, Trossachs and Tayside.
