Images of two important sites north of Luxor near the River Nile but usually visted as an extra tour either by road or a day cruise.
Dendara Iseum Decoration eg985413 Dendara Temple detail netcher ancient Egyptian Isis birth Iseum photo is located north of Luxor and survives as one of the finest examples of the Late Period and the main buildings visited today date from fourth century BC in to the Roman period. It has a notable rare representation of the famous Cleopatra, some beautiful carvings and is relatively unscathed by the ravages of time, desecration and being dismantled for building materials. This photo is of reliefs on outside of the rear wall of the small temple of Isis with a freize of netcher figures, seated Gods and above a series of Hathor faces and atributed to the Emperor Augustus. Nubian Village Wall Decoration EG051528JHP Egypt Aswan Nubian House Living Room Wall Decoration Ethnic Photograph in a Nubian House often visited on trips in feluccas on the River Nile to the Cataracts and the western bank with Aga Khan Mausoleum or camel rides into the desert to visit St Simeon monastery. This village on the West Bank is more of a tourist site as against a much more genuine village on Seheil Island which is only visited usually to see the Rock Carvings. These photos were taken with a compact camera to be less intrusive and I was advised by the tour guide not to use my professional gear. Persephone xcv7758jhp Persephone carved statue Pitcaple Aberdeenshire Greek Goddess Scottish spring vegetation near the Maiden Stone this ancient Scottish relic stands by the roadside near Pitcaple and is easily accessible for the causal visit from a small lay-by carpark at the Maidenstone although it is a narrow busy road to walk with care. The Statue is by the entrance to Crowmallie House and is of the Greek Goddess of the underworld, supposed daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Considered also to be the vegetation goddess and honoured often at spring time when crops start to grow again.
