Marnoch Kirkton Cemetery Death Symbols Skull Crossbones Scythe Stone Tomb Carving is located by the River Deveron south of Banff in Aberdeenshire in North East Scotland. The church and the area where originally called Aberchirder and the congregation were the catalyst for the Disruption of 1834, a major schism in the Scottish Church of the time. Only a gable of the old church remains in the kirkyard and although an active cemetery it does have some interesting historically important ruined tombs and mausoleums including an excellent example of a watchtower dating from 1831, built during the time of body snatching for medical research rife throughout Scotland.

Elgin Cathedral TO3357400JHP
Elgin Cathedral Burial Tombstone Lid Skull Crossbones Foreground Scottish Ruin founded in 1224 although a substantial ruin now cared for by Historic Scotland remains one of the most beautiful medieval buildings in Scotland. The transepts with their buttressed west towers and parts of the tall choir and nave date from the fire of 1270 but subsequent destruction especially by the Wolf of Badenoch in 1390 and later further destruction and neglect after the Reformation means we will never see this building in its true majesty.
