Images of two important sites north of Luxor near the River Nile but usually visted as an extra tour either by road or a day cruise.
Abydos Osireion 5376EG07JHP Abydos Seti Temple Egypt Osireion built granite blocks construction waterlevel at the rear of the largest royal monument built in white limestone, situated at the most important and one of the oldest necropolis of ancient Egypt is the home of Osiris and the Temple of Seti/Sety 1 with additions by Ramses 11. The photograph illustrates the Osireion, a cenotaph to Sety, completed by Merenptah but also a symbolic tomb for the God Osiris. This is now open to the air and is partly submerged but still its awesome size can still be appreciated with its megalithic granite blocks similar in appearance to the Valley Temple at Giza. NB slight camera distortion on facing left ahnd block is cut straight. Abydos Osireion 5374EG07JHP Abydos Osireion Sety Cenotaph Hall monumental granite columns water flooded to the rear of this Temple north of Luxor in Egypt, a huge Centotaph supposedly to Seti 1 which is now partially submerged owing to the higher modern water table. There is slight distortion of the nearest block because of the wide angle lens - the blocks are absolutely perpendicular. Grounds are normally open all year round. Example of the best in Scottish Baronial architecture, dating from 1626, and is unspoiled since being relinquished to the NTS by the Forbes-Sempill family.
