Egypt > Aswan Nubian Museum (1 file)

Aswan Nubian Museum Ramses Statue EG052952JHP
Aswan Egyptian Nubian Museum Statue of Ramses 11 from Garf Hussein temple colonnade built in the 19th Dynasty by Setau Viceroy of Kush in sandstone. En Exhibit inside a modern air-conditioned building whose foundations were laid in 1986, opened in 1997 and organised through UNESCO. Very low artificial light makes general photography difficult as well as affecting accurate colour balance. This now appears to be the only museum in Egypt where photography is still allowed although it is not easy as the ambient lighting is extremely subdued for conservation reasons.

Egypt > Egyptian Museum Cairo (1 file)

Royalty Free photos of exhibits from the Cairo Egyptian Museum taken before current bans with slide film in available light not to studio quality
Tut 2nd Coffin EG11727JHP
Egyptian Museum Exhibit face mask second gilded sarcophagus Tutankhamun photo in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 1996 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour.

Egypt > Outlying Pyramids (1 file)

Pictures of pyramids and scenery related to them outwith the main sites of Giza and Saqqara such as Abusir, Dashur, El Lisht, Meydum and Hawara
Senwosret Pyramid Lisht eg01296jhp
Egypt el-Lisht Pyramid Senwosret museum painted farm scenes wheat flails Middle Kingdom site which also has the slightly better preserved tomb of Amenemhet 1 nearby. Access to Senusret’s pyramid is through a local village and agricultural land at the edge of the desert escarpment as is common with most of the pyramid sites south of Giza. I remember passing a very well kept football pitch. A local custodian took me around and also allowed me to take flash photographs of some coloured reliefs on limestone blocks under a roofed area. The pyramid has almost totally collapsed into a huge sandy mound but there were still one section of limestone casing intact and not plundered and around the site were hints at its previous enclosure wall structure with large sections of eroded limestone sticking out of the sand like a whales skeleton. The burial chamber thought to have been robbed shortly after his death is under the ground water table and is inaccessible. The site dates back to the Middle Kingdom-Senusret’a reign was 1971-1926BC and he was the son of Amenemhet 1 building his pyramid near his fathers. There is evidence of nine subsidiary pyramids for royal ladies and mastaba tombs around the site including those of Vizier Mentuhotep, Senwosret-ankh.
