The photo is by the main entrance North Propylon gate alonside which is a small open air museum of various artefacts found on site including this carving of the pharoah do which the torso half lies alongside showing the great carving skills of the craftsmen in sandstone.

Aswan Egyptian Nubian Museum photo of Abu Simbel showing it by the River Nile in the 1960's before being moved and in a modern air-conditioned building whose foundations were laid in 1986, opened in 1997 and organised through UNESCO. Very low artificial light makes general photography difficult as well as affecting accurate colour balance. This now appears to be the only museum in Egypt where photography is still allowed although it is not easy as the ambient lighting is extremely subdued for conservation reasons.

Karanis Kom Aushim Ancient Egyptian City Fayoum Statue Exhibit Pharaoh on the north eastern edge of the area known as Fayoum and dates from Ptolemaic times through to 500AD. Two Roman dated temples survive in reasonable state and the southern one is dedicated to the crocodile Gods of Pnepheros and Petesuchos. Many finds have been made especially of life in a residential area with houses scattered throughout the site and there is also a fine Roman bathhouse. A small museum now closed has been replaced with an open air area with a selection of artefacts adjacent to the main walk to the temples as illustrated in this photo.

Kom Ombo Temple Nile Egypt Open Air Museum Coffins Lids Granite Broken situated near the Hathor Shrine and mummified crocodile exhibits is on the River Nile just north of Aswan and a regular visit on all Nile Cruises, was principally built by Ptolemy V of Silsilah sandstone. Dedicated to two Gods â€“ Sobek, the crocodile and Horus, the falcon and although it has been damaged over the years, mainly through slipping into the River Nile and some structural damage owing to earthquakes, there are still some wonderful colourful reliefs of the most detailed and delicate style.

A new museum and some excavated parts of his temple were opened in 2005. It is a mixture of open air and covered museum exhibits with some remains of the temple area with column bases. Some of the coloured wall reliefs are exquisite and because of the natural light available were easily photographed despite being inside. There is also a replica of the famous Israeli Stele, the original being in the Cairo Museum. This is a visit that would have to made outwith the usual West Bank package tour although easily arranged and is easily found next to the Ramasseum.

Heliopolis Ancient Egyptian Senusert Obelisk Museum Coffins site entrance north of Cairo is the oldest standing obelisk in Egypt at the site of the temple of Re-Atum although little is left of this once important sun cult centre and dating from around 1970BC at the beginning of the 12th Dynasty. Not visited usually as part of most tour packages it is an interesting visit enroute for other interesting Delta sites such as Tel Basta and Tanis.

Apart from a few statues and other items little remains of Memphis, possibly founded in 3100BC by the First Dynasty King Menes on land reclaimed from the River Nile.

This is the covering for a mummy and in the style of many such Late Period mummified coverings with gold plating or polychrome cartonnage giving it surprising richness. It is difficult to avoid reflections in the glass especially as access to take photographs is restricted, tripods and flash is banned and I understand that since I visited there has been an overall photography ban applied.

This is the wooden coffin of Khennu, Chancellor to the Gods, from the Middle Kingdom and the small figure of his son Ipiemsafipi stands right of centre along with with other exhibits of funerary goods such as the wooden boat and carved figures all part of the team to assist the departed in the afterlife. It is difficult to avoid reflections in the glass especially as access to take photographs is restricted, tripods and flash is banned and I understand that since I visited there has been an overall photography ban applied.
