Karnak Two Chapels EG074909jhp Egypt Karnak Thutmosis alabaster Chapels two Amenhotep museum sunny blue sky was one of the original exhibits in the Museum in the Karnak complex on the East Bank of the Nile at Luxor. Ruling around 1400BC he is particularly known for the famous Dream Stele between the paws of the Sphinx. It is not usually part of the standard tour package so has to be entered ‘privately’ and an additional ticket purchased on entry, accessed from the First Forecourt through the eastern gate past the famous standing statue of Ramses 11. Passing through an area full of stored blocks rescued from other parts of the Karnak site, you can view restored chapels including these of Thutmosis 1V in the foreground and beyond that of Amenhotep 1 alabaster barque chapel of whom little is recorded, who ruled around 1550-24BC and although his mummy was found in the 1881 royal mummy cache but this beautiful small chapel is one delightful reminder of his 25 year reign. There is also the exquisite White Chapel of Senwosret 1, the Chapelle Rouge of Hatshepsut and a recent larger addition is the reconstruction of Thutmosis IV [Thutmose] Festival Court for a quiet, contemplative and beautiful experience to the busy main Karnak tour. Karnak Chapel Rouge EG074887jhp Luxor Karnak Egypt Hatshepsut Chapelle Rouge ithyphallic Min carving pair defaced has been partially restored in addition to other small but beautiful chapels and temples in the Open Air Museum, a quiet and contemplative extra to the north east of the main Karnak complex. This is recent major reconstruction situated in the Open Air Museum at Karnak with rescued blocks from the original barque Chapel built by the Pharaoh Hatshepsut and possibly originally cited between her obelisks in the centre of the temple of Amun. The partial reconstruction offers an insight to the beauty and grace of such a building destroyed because of the backlash against her ruling as a ‘male’ King. Rescued blocks were found inside other buildings around the site. Karnak is located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and it the largest religious complex on the Nile. Egyptian Motorcycle Repairs EG057143JHP Egyptian Delta Town Street Shop Egyptians Work Motorcycles Repairs People in the area east of the town of Zigazig north of Cairo which has recently had a new visitors centre and museum built for its Bubastis Temple Site which still remains a rather confusing collection of damaged material with the main temple of Bastet reflected in this photographs. Damaged by earthquakes some 2000 years ago as is seen in much of the structural damage today it is still fascinating with the excitement of finding beautiful carvings and examples of the craftsmanship of those ancient builders now hidden away amongst grass and a scatter field of damaged remnants from what was a huge cult site to the Cat Goddess Bastet visited by hundreds and thousands of pilgrims as recorded by Herodotus. Not usually part of normal Egyptian packages these sorts of town images are part of a private trip into the northern areas of Egypt part of an interesting day journey that should include Tanis as well. Migvie Cross Slab jkl9308jhp Migvie Stone Cross-slab Christian symbol carved ancient Scottish relic stands in the kirkyard of Migvie Church and is easily accessible for the casual visitor. It is thought to date from the 9th century AD with a mixture of Pictish and early Christian symbols carved on gneiss stone, 2 metres high, similar to that at Kinord but held to be of inferior quality. The interlaced filled cross appears crudely squeezed into the stone but has interesting circular projections at the top, suggestive of something hanged. There are also iconic symbols carved into the angles of the cross, namely horseshoe, V-rod, double disc, Z-rod and a pair of shears as well as a horse and rider. Gallery of Scottish photographs of plants, flowers, such as bluebells, harebells, Dames Rocket, broom, gorse, fox gloves, poppies; trees such as gean, silver birch, pines, Scots Pines, larch, and a few wild animals such as birds, hare, pheasants, roe deer, red squirrels, insects, butterflies such as peacocls, red admirals, tortoiseshell, although I am not a wildlife photographer as such.
Small Tortoiseshell bnm9177jhp Butterfly small tortoiseshell colourful rear view blue chevrons buddleia feeding Scotland August summer photograph as they feed and fly eratically between different buddleia bushes and they hardly settle and are moving all the time so awkward to photograph. So far I have counted only a pair of them on my several buddleaias and these are the second brood of the year as the first appear much earlier in the summer. Numbers overall are better this year, 2017, although still down on 20 years ago when 100plus was not unusual. So far this year I have counted over 50 at one time, mainly Peacocks and Red Admirals with a couple of Small Tortoiseshells and one Dark Green Fritillary but some good sunny spells seems to have got them active. One surprise was to find a Golden Ringed Dragonfly hanging from a buddleia early in the morning, no movement of any kind while I photographed it but it had gone 10 mins later when I came out again. Partridge on Dyke xvv1381jhp Partridge red-legged bird Scottish Deeside colours plumage Alectoris rufa standing on a stone wall and showing off its very striking feather patterns from black throat band, red legs and black and white side panels all making it ideal camouflage when running in the undergrowth. This particular bird was brought onto the estate as part of a selection of more interesting birds for the seasonal rough shooting and is not a native of this part of Scotland. A pair that hung around my cottage did breed and had a clutch of chicks although sadly they survived only a few days as it was the year I also had a feral Scottish Wild cat resident. One interesting problem I had was the male flying at my conservatory window seeing a reflection of itself and presumably seeing it as competition-I had to stick a sheet of paper over the outside of the glass until it moved on.
