 British Grampian Nacreous clouds forest West vibrant colourful iridescent PSCs rare winter event taken on the afternoon of 24th December, 2023 at Crooktree, 25 miles west of Aberdeen, at 16.10hrsUT and was discovered by accident during extremely strong gusty winds looking Westwards over Ord Fundlie forest and was the last photo taken. These iridescent clouds are high altitude cirriform lenticular polar stratospheric, type 11 events, a rare winter sighting caused by twilight sunlight diffracted off ice crystals or water droplets with nitric or sulphuric acid content; sometimes called Mother of Pearl clouds because of the nature of the colour effect. This photograph was taken with a Nikon D700 full frame DSLR using a 28-300mm AF-S Nikkor ED zoom lens at f11 aperture, 78mm focal length, 1600 ISO with exposure of 1/25th second.
